Pizza Dog FUN!

Birthdays are the best part of childhood because it’s like you’re completely in charge. You get to make all the decisions as long as they’re safe and you get to be as silly as you want. Your favorite items, your favorite gifts, your favorite place, your favorite people and most importantly your favorite food. The most important things about a birthday party is making sure the food is perfect and the location is perfect because those elements can make your birthday party the best.

Everyone knows every child’s favorite foods outdoors are hot dogs and PIZZA! Some children love their pizzas extra special and some do only like the simple cheesy pizza. Some children like hotdogs drenched in ketchup and some like them a little more sophisticated with toppings added to them. Nonetheless pizza is always a child’s top choice for what they like and the first thing they want on the menu. Pizza is so convenient for parties because it only takes some bread and cheese and pizza sauce and BOOM you have a pizza recipe. Then a lightbulb went off and I thought, hmm what if I could combine my two favorite foods?

If I could create the best birthday party for myself it would be at Staten Island FunPark. The Go Karts and Batting Cages are my favorite attractions because I always pretend I’m really driving on the road at the karts, and I pretend to be a real baseball player at the batting cages. It’s the place where I get to live my fantasy and that makes me excited. So of course when it was time to request food for my birthday party I made an interesting request. I requested pizza dogs and though that may sound weird I had the perfect picture in my head. It was a simple hot dog that needs shredded mozzarella added and pepperoni with pizza sauce substituting the ketchup on the dog.

The recipe was simply as follows 6 hot dog buns, 1/4 cup butter, melted, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 6 hot dogs boiled, 1/2 cup pizza sauce, 1 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella,1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning, 1/2 c. mini pepperoni. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Open hot dog buns and brush the inside with melted butter. Sprinkle with garlic powder. Place on baking sheet and bake until lightly golden, about 5 minutes. Preheat broiler. Spoon a little sauce onto each hot dog bun then place boiled hot dog on top. Top each hot dog with mozzarella, sprinkle with Italian seasoning, then place mini pepperoni on top. Broil until the cheese is melty, about 2 minutes. We had pizza dogs for the entire group and my birthday party was completely set. Karts, Cages, and Pizza dogs made it one of the most talked about birthday parties at my school!

Happy National Pizza Day!
